Prometheus
Server AppPrometheus 3.14 is the newest actively maintained release, currently at patch 3.14.0. 2 of 35 tracked cycles remain supported. The next cycle scheduled to reach end-of-life is 3.14, on September 30, 2026.
Support pattern
How Prometheus has behaved across the cycles tracked here, rather than what its policy documents state. Useful for judging how much runway a version is likely to have before you commit to it.
Support windows have stayed consistent across the tracked history, so past cycles are a reasonable guide to what a new one will get.
Computed from release and end-of-life dates tracked for Prometheus. Medians are used rather than averages so one unusually short or long release does not skew the figure. Cycles with no recorded end-of-life date are excluded from the support window.
How Prometheus versioning, EOL & security support work
Prometheus uses major.minor.patch versioning and ships a new minor release roughly every six weeks, with patch releases filling in as needed. Ordinary minor releases only get bug fixes during that short window before the next minor takes over; a small number of minor releases are additionally designated Long-Term Support (LTS), getting a substantially extended window of bug, security, and documentation backports instead of new features.
Prometheus publishes security fixes and advisories through its GitHub repository, following coordinated disclosure as is standard for CNCF projects. Because only the current minor and any active LTS lines get backported fixes, running an older, non-LTS version means a newly discovered vulnerability won't be patched for that version.
